Trees in Togo
In 2000, Pauline Versteegh started the GoTogo project in the Mô Plain in Togo (West Africa), providing approximately 25,000 refugees and displaced persons with a chance for a new future. During the early years of the project, Pauline Versteegh also began planting trees on the degraded land of the base. Since 2015, trees donated through the Tree of Life crowdfunding program have also been planted in this protected area. You can learn more about Tree of Life by clicking the button at the bottom.
The photos below show the transformation from the degraded land at the start of the GoTogo base construction in Saïboudé, Mô, Togo to how it looks today. The natural ecosystem is gradually regenerating, as we call it.
Complete restoration is not possible, as the environment has been too severely damaged. However, with our positive contribution, nature can still develop into a renewed, healthy, and thriving ecosystem. Thanks to the Tree of Life Program and the efforts of the local community, the biodiverse forest continues to grow.

transformed from forest to savanna.
The next stage would be desert.

We can achieve even more in Togo by sharing knowledge about natural ecosystem regeneration. If you make a one-time or recurring contribution to the Tree of Life Program, we can expand our efforts. With just 3,000 individuals or businesses contributing €5 per month, we can establish an extensive program to train former refugees and displaced persons to become conservationists—who will, in turn, educate others.
For €5 per Tree of Life, you help this forest grow even more and support the Integral Transition Program of Stichting Het Kan Wel!.
Thank you, everyone, for your contributions so far! Without you, we couldn’t have achieved this.
